Dermatology

The Department of Dermatology at Goa medical college was started with Dr. V.L Rege who had joined the institute in the capacity of assistant Professor in the department in 1965.

Thereafter the department was given its official face by Professor V.N. Sehgal, who as the first Professor of the Department of Dermatology Venereology & Lepros, in 1972 obtained the permission of the Medical Council of India, to start Post Graduate courses in the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy. The MCI gave permission to start a P.G. course in the specialty wherein an intake of three PG students [one MD and two Diploma] was allowed. The next MCI inspection of MCI was conducted in 2011 where the MD seat was recognised. The two Diploma seats were given recognition in 2013. In 2015 permission [following an MCI inspection] was obtained for an increase in MD seats to three [from one]. Then in 2019 recognition inspection was conducted as a result of which the intake of three MD students every year was recognized. Thereafter with the permission of the MCI the Diploma seats were converted to MD seats, whereby the yearly intake remained at five students, but now they were all MD candidates.
