Cardiac Anaesthesia

The department of CVTS was started in February 2014. The appointed consultants joined the department in February 2014. The department was headed by senior consultant Dr. Shirish S Borkar, along with a team of consultants consisting of Junior consultant CVTS Dr. Jagannath P Kolwalkar and two consultant cardiac anaesthesiologists viz. Dr. M Sunil Chandra Vidya Sagar and Dr. Bikash Sahu.

After establishing the infrastructure and all the equipment in place for the cardiac operation theatre, with the help of our team, we did the first open heart surgery in the history of GMC on 10th April 2014. We started operating daily, from Monday to Friday, operating one open heart case every day initially, and over a period of three months we started doing two open heart surgery cases per day, which we still do till date. New junior consultant CVTS surgeon, Dr. Vijay Madhan joined in 2018. Two new cardiac anaesthesiologists, one consultant Dr. N Jagadeesh Vaggar and one junior consultant Dr. Sushmit Kamat have joined the dept. in 2019. We have also expanded our support staff, by hiring more ICU nurses and operation theatre nurses and attenders for class IV staff.
