Community Medicine
The Department of Community Medicine has its headquarters at the College building behind the Deans   Office on the fifth floor. We have two health centers directly under the administrative control of Dean (GMC), namely RHTC Mandur & UHC St. Cruz. A third PHC for training purposes of Medical Interns & PGs is CHC Sanquelim, which is under the administrative control of DHS.
Vision
- Build the capacity of the existing staff by sending them for specialized training.
- Send staff for training in Public health in the country or out of the country to build their Public Health capacity and skills. The faculty will be trained in various fields of Public health by undertraining international programs such as MPH, etc. This will enable department to enhance the capacity of the department to respond to the public health crisis affecting our state and nation in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Send and train faculty in Biostatistics or Public Health statistics by undertaking programs offered by Indian or Overseas institutions. This will enhance the capacity of the department to set a Biostatistics resource and training centre. This centre will serve as the leader and mentor to all the biostatistical needs of the research carried out at the Goa medical college. Often our research articles aren’t published in international journals due to inadequacies in the biostatistical parameters.
- The department even under the auspices of Goa Medical College can create an Institute of Public Health to impart the knowledge of Public health to the desiring students.
- In the next 20 years, the department would like to send our faculty to do Ph.D. in Public health, Epidemiology, and statistics. This will enable the department to have PhD guides in these specialties and our department will be able to accept PhD students for these specific disciplines.
Mission
- Train the faculty in the specialized field of epidemiology. This training could be done in the country or out of the country. The knowledge and skills achieved through this training can be used to set up a clinical epidemiological unit.
- Establish a full-fledged library that will have all the latest journals and periodicals from reputed publishers. The postgraduate and undergraduate students will not have to struggle to obtain relevant information.
