Mission

We seek to advance the frontiers of anaesthesia in the various disciplines given below and provide the highest standards of anaesthesia, perioperative care and pain relief to our patients as well as to impart training to the highest professional standards.

Post anaesthesia Care Unit

Ambulatory Anaesthesia (Day Care Anaesthesia)

Acute and Chronic Pain Management

Labour Analgesia

Trauma and Transplant Anaesthesia

Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

A PACU is intended to render quality patient care to those who are recovering from the immediate physiological effects of anaesthesia and surgery.

All patients who receive GA, RA or MAC (Monitored anaesthesia care) shall be admitted to the PACU or an area which provides equivalent post anaesthesia care (e.g. a surgical ICU), except by specific order of the anaesthesiologist responsible for the patient’s care.

R

Design

It is a critical care unit, close to the operation theatre where there is ongoing evaluation and stabilisation of the patient, patient’s vital signs are closely observed, pain management begins and complications after surgery are anticipated, prevented and treated.

R

Equipment

Well equipped with multipara monitors for each bed and facility for resuscitation and initiation of pain relief.

R

Staff

Trained PACU nurse skilled in prompt recognition of postoperative complications.

Present Situations

All Patients including those of extreme ages, long operative hours, and complicated surgeries have to be shifted to their respective wards which are far from the operation theatre.

Suggestions

  1. Recovery rooms to be upgraded to PACU with monitors for each bed
  • Equipment for initiation of pain management e.g. PCA pumps.
  • Nurses trained in critical care, available at all times.

2. Post-Surgical ICU /High dependency unit (HDU) managed by each surgical branch – is the need of the hour
